Unfortunately we were booked to fly home from Nairobi via Dubai with Emirates on 28 February - the day of the Israeli /US strikes on Iran and of Irans response.
We were due to fly out of Nairobi at 1645 but despite no word from Emirates and the flight still not showing as cancelled on the departure board 2 hrs before departure, we, like lots of others went to the airport.
So we were stuck at the airport with lots of others looking for answers. Emirates simply said not our fault, you will need to find alternatives on your own. Emirates will eventually refund you.
So with queues of people chasing options (and flights filling fast) plus it being late at night in Australia and not having a local SIM to contact Flightcentre who we booked with we found a small travel agent who managed help us get flights back to Perth via Johannesburg and we booked ourselves from Perth to Sydney.
Not quite the ending we had hoped for, but at least we were able to get flights. Others gave up hoping to get something in the next few days.
