Pokhara to Jomson 2720m to Kagbeni 2810m

We were up at 4:30 for our 6 am flight to Jomson and were greeted by this amazing sunrise over Macchupare

It was clear for most of the flight with great mountain views...

..including Annapurna.

It was a smooth flight and landing at Jomson, which is in the Mustang region.

We walked up to the Hotel Tilicho where some of Satish's staff were waiting

A very Tibetan interior

And what else but banana pancakes

This is the start of our trekking to the Upper Dolpo region of Nepal, which is culturally Tibetan.

It was only a 3 hour walk with little elevation, designed to start our acclimatisation. As we flew in to 9000 ft, we need it. A reassuring sign leaving Jomson?

We walked up the river valley, in very barren country

There were old troglodyte caves on the western bank

And Nilgiri peak watched over us

Our first Om Mane Padme Hum sign

A sun halo above us, surely a good sign

We soon sighted Kagbeni, and the wheat harvest was underway

We checked in to the Hotel Nilgiri View...

...and there was the view! - right out the restaurant window.

This is the view from the terrace

And of course there is a place for our donkeys, which will be used instead of porters.

Seemed the hotel owner also had a sideline in goats.
