Six of us headed to Rubio on New Ireland in Nuigini for a weeks surfing...
..at Rubio Plantation Resort, near the circle on the map, and some 220 km south east of the main town of Kavieng
The resort was much the same as when we visited in Nov 2009..
..but with a new viewing deck built over the water
Our first day we surfed out front..
Other days travelling by truck over a considerable length of coastline...
...and bush tracks...
..searching, searching, for the best waves
..and we found a good few..this one called Slipperies at Kolonoboi
Also at Kanabu
And Kisela
and Bulu
To name a few. Even the local kids were in to it, on home made hand surfers
Other highlights included the people...
..the villages..
..some wildlife..
We also went fishing..
Toured the cacao plantation..
Went to a dance night at the local village..
Had great food...
..including a decadent chocolate tart made from plantation cacao
There was also local art
