Kings Canyon

UAfter 4 days, 4 states, and 2900 kms (with overnights in Hay, Port Augusta and Coober Pedy) we arrived at our first destination Kings Canyon.

Of course, resort accommodation wasn't part of the program, but they did deliver on the promise of grassy campsites.

The main reason for the visit, as with most people, was to do the Rim Walk at Kings Canyon proper. Kings Canyon resort is outside Watarrka NP, just 10 kms from the canyon walks.

The entry point is very impressive, and includes a looping 5 minute video warning walkers of the heat and cliff edge dangers.

The walk starts with a serious uphill slog..

..but it is not long before the views unfold

There are also some pretty impressive stream bed layers..

...some lovely chasms...

...flowers, including this holly grevillea...

..and mistletoe..

..birds..

...lizards..

..amazing colours in the rocks..

...beehive rock formations...

...a Garden of Efen, with lovely reflections..

...and of course the spectacular red walls.

Back at the camp, there were amazing sunset views back towards the canyon.
