Madrid day two

Predicted to be 35 degrees today so headed out early to El Retiro, the main park, and lungs of Madrid.

Lovely shaded open spaces and their own Crystal Palace.

There was also a modern art exhibition. There in the Palaccio Velasquez

Lots of "you must be jokings" from us

Wandered back through town and found bookseller stalls, somewhat reminiscent of those along the Seine.

By then it was warming up so it was into Mercado San Michel for some excellent fresh orange juice and tapas.

For lunch we had to find a shaded area, and the water atomisers were a god send. For Bob, the heuvos rotos, broken eggs, had to be tried as they are something of a Madrid speciality.

Mid afternoon was definitely siesta time in our air conditioned room. We ventured out late to the Reina Sofia museum. Lots of un fathomable modern art, but also lots of Picassos.

Diner was at El Lacon bar. Has a good reputation, not too touristy. Had a good time going through if our different wines with various free and purchased tapas. Met a nice lady living in Abu Dhabi, so a good chat as well.
