for some more provisions
and some entertainment by one of Fletcher Christians descendants
There was also a memorial and plaque listing the names of the 195 Bounty mutineer descendants and their Tahitian wives and families from Pitcairn Island who came here in 1856
Next stop was Emily Bay for a swim. The water was a really pleasant temperature and a magnificent blue
Phil and Dawn arrived mid morning, and while they settled in, we headed off for a quick snorkel at Slaughter Bay. T was less than ideal conditions, but there was plenty of coral and small fish
Next it was north of the island to the magnificently set Bedrock Cafe for lunch
Next stop was the Captain Cook landing lookout
and a walk along the Bridle track
with lots of birdwatching, such as frigate birds
sparrow hawks
and white terns, noddies, boobies, and red tailed frigate birds working the cliffs.
Another included tour in our package in the evening, Wonderland by Night. A night of bush poetry by local poet Archie Biggs in "magically" lit woods. It actually turned to it to be better than expected.
