C - day 18 Coronation Gulf and beyond

We continue westward, exploring along the way

Our main stop was Murray Island

We landed in glorious sunshine. Official temperature 2 degrees but it felt much warmer in the sun

The walk was mainly about bones, vegetation and a view. Firstly caribou bones

Efflorescence making beautiful patters on the rocks

Plenty of lichen, again with wonderful patterns

Plus lots of berries - blueberries and crowberries

Some lovely plants

Moss campion

A small willow tree, maybe decades old

An interesting plant with seeds along the leaves

Surprisingly a crab claw

Then up for the view

Back on the ship it was off to the spa and pool. A nice outlook from the infinity edge of the pool..

…and even a bit of sun baking

We then headed further west passing more DEW line installations (Distant Early Warning) aimed at early detection of any missiles or whatever from Russia or whoever heading towards North America. Initiated in the Cold War but still maintained.

…and having an excellent presentation from our Inuit ambassadors on board about clothing and how it is made, residential schools (just like our stolen generation) and various plant uses

Some of us got to do dress-ups

We also passed an area where a number of seals could be seen breaking the surface.
