C-day 20 Exiting the NW Passage

Today we continued our westward journey, exiting the NW passage and entering the Beaufort Sea

En route we were on look out for whales etc. Nothing seen in miles of ocean except a few birds. Some pacific loon (Google photo)…

.. and some king eider (Google again)

However about 11 am we were advised we would be diverting from our route to assist a yacht with engine problems. It gradually appeared in thick fog…

…then the ship launched a rescue boat with mechanics on board

Eventually we got under way again and learnt their engine had flooded and couldn’t be restarted. Fortunately there was another vessel in the area that could tow it to a port. We cruised on in thick fog.

More lectures during the afternoon and a Nalbinding (Viking one needle knitting) lesson with Rebeca for the girls

Of course the fog didn’t stop us eating - with our new found friends Tom and Lydia from Newfoundland

Then after dinner singing and dancing along with the crew band The Rolling Waves - the singers from the Philippines of course.
