Antsirabe to Andasibe

This morning we drove north towards the outskirts of Antananarivo before heading east toward the coast and Andasibe. On the way to Tana we stopped at an aluminium pot "factory". Here they melted down scrap aluminium to made cooking pots. This is the melting area...

..and the casting area. We didn't see any missing toes!

We also stop at roadside shops selling goods made from raffia.

And saw what we thought was community washing day but turned out to be families washing all their clothes and bedding after someone died. This is cultural to wash away any bad luck.

Near Andasibe we visited a reptile "park". We weren't so keen until we went in to somewhat basic but effective large aviary type enclosures with the most amazing creatures.

Male then female Parsons chameleons, the largest in Madagascar

These lateralis, or carpet chameleons

A panther chameleon

Ousteralis chameleons

And long nose and stub tailed smaller chameleons

Plus some leaf tailed geckos, can you spot the first one?

Plus tomato frogs

And.. a comet moth...about 10 inches long ..... Only living 8 days

Plus...for the tourists...

...and we saw them striking with their super long tongues, but you will have to wait for the video for that.

After arriving at Andasibe NP! We went for a night walk. We saw a dwarf lemur (quality photo following)..

...plus a mouse lemur - no photo - the smallest primate in the world.. And more chameleon. This elephant ear chameleon

..and a small Parsons chameleon in the wild.
