Belo sur Tsiribihina to Bekopaka

Next on the program is the Tsingy de Bemaraha - one of the musts for tourists visiting Madagascar. We needed to travel north for about 100 km on a 4WD track to Bekopaka at the entrance of the park.

It was rough going most of the way and took 4 1/2 hours to get to the Manambolo river. It was harsh dry country all the way..

We passed a few basic villages, stopping at one for a leg stretch...

..but there was not a great deal to see except for some magnificent African harrier hawks.

Thr ferry crossing proved to be quite fascinating. The motor was broken down so it had to be polled across the river. We had a bit of a wait, with the usual child gatherings...

...and other photo opportunities.

The best bit came when the ferry arrived, some distance from the waters edge and boarding was called..

Nonetheless pole power did the trick...

...and we arrived safely on the other side.

From there it was off to our Malagasy style hotel for the next 3 nights, the Tanankoay...

...with simple huts in a botanical garden...

..and perfectly comfortable inside.
