Morombe to Andavadoaka

It was a leisurely start as we only had 45 Kms to travel to the small fishing village of Andovoaka. We were also at the northern tip of the Great Reef of Madagascar, which runs just off the coast for several hundred kilometres. We started on sand tracks skirting the mangroves..

..passing several very basic villages...

...and heavy bush.

The baobabs continued to fascinate us, particularly this huge one..

...and the nice lady who showed up while we were stopped...

..and the spiney cactus was in flower.

We then came across a dried lake, covered in red salicome (samphire) with a fantastically shaped different species of baobab.

..and of course someone had to climb one!

The locals were always interested in us as we passed, it was "vazaha bon bon" or cadeau, vazaha being white person

We arrived in Andavadoaka before lunch at low tide. The view of the lagoon was quite spectacular, with locals out getting octopus and sea cucumbers.

We were staying at Coco Beach huts and had lunch on their terrace.

Our huts and the view

The arty outside loo.

The village itself

Plus, this equivalent of a Brazilian parilla!

And of course lovely light at sunset
