Wonderful baguettes and ficelles, Madagascar honey and home made jams, brioche, fruit buns, orange juices, papaya, and bowls of coffee. It was a wonder we could move after all we ate but we had a date with a 3 hour coastal walk and it was a warm and sunny day.
We had a short but confusing drive to the start point which resulted in some bush bashing and a feeling something wasn't quite right.
It turned out we had started well before the walk proper, but the scenery was great so no harm done except the total walk took us nearly 5 hours!!
Anyway, we had great scenery...
Coral filled rock pools...
Lots of shore skippers...
...and crabs..
Sea arches...
Pandanus forests...
..with scatterings of the colourful outer nuts from the pandanus fruit...
...the inner bulb of the fruit we had eaten the night before.
Lots of lava flow areas....
...and lava stone beaches...
With amazing sparkling "sand"
Tropic birds working the shoreline...
Nonetheless we were happy to reach our destination Anse de Cascades...
...and celebrate with cold beers.
We arrived back at the guesthouse to feverish activity by the Bellier, or Village Weavers in English. The males built the nest and the females choose who to mate with based on the quality of the nest. It was definitely breeding season, with some trees having 10 or more nests under construction.
