Fishguard and Cardigan

We had a day off walking today, instead driving north to Cardigan via Fishguard (Goodwick) to have lunch with Gill's brother and sister-in-law. It was well timed as it was forecast to rain most of the day.

Fishguard, contrary to expectations, turned out to be quite a pleasant town. It was well removed from the ferry terminal and had a very local feel.

Of course we stopped for coffee, Welsh naturally!

We passed through a number of hamlets on the way. This one caught our eye - it was all Welsh to us!!

Cardigan was very busy. Obviously a drawcard for holiday makers on a rainy day.

We lunched there in a small gallery cafe, most having cawl, or Welsh stew. We came home via the very scenic Preseli Hills..

...and the tiny Gwaun Valley real ale brewery...

...where they micro brew on site...

...and we got to sample up to 8 "warm flat" beers.

We also called in on a traditional woollen mill..

..just as they were closing, but we did see this very old weaving machine.

It was then back home for the evening. Tony and Gill went for a short walk in a lull in the weather only to return shortly after putting, their clothes in the dryer!
