We drove along the Sutlej River valley, passing lots of yaks
Before arriving at our destination
We parked near this yak herders hut, with a huge pile of yak horns on the roof..
...crossed this bridge, which had animal carcasses hanging from it..
..and then walked up to the largely troglodyte village ruins with the so- called Crystal Palace on top
There were paintings in one cave..
..clear signs of habitation in others...
...and a sole remaining monk's meditation cell with original murals.
The view from the top was quite stunning
..as was the view back from the loop walk.
We drove back past a still working village with a monastery and impressive prayer flag display..
..and stopped to visit the Bon (pre Buddhist Tibetan religion) monasteries a Guru Gem. This is the large Guru Gem monastery itself...
..and this the smaller, nearby Gu Rujia temple.
We then drove back to the hotel, with bonus sightings along the way of these magnificent cranes..with a rather downbeat name of black neck cranes
