Tingri to Rongbuk (5200m)

We awoke to a clear day with views of Cho Yo and the top of Everest from the front of the hotel

We then drove into Qomonglu Reserve en route to Rongbuk and EBC.

We passed several hamlets within the Reserve..

...wove seemingly endlessly up to a 5200 m pass ...

..with great views of the range, including five 8000m plus peaks..

Everest dominating

It was then down down down on big switchbacks...

..to more valley villages

and ruins

Eventually the valley narrowed, and we climbed again...

...to Rongbuk, and the Rongbuk Hotel..

..and some welcoming butter tea

We also had lunch at the hotel..

..then walked up the valley to the tented tourist accommodation, seeing several blue sheep on the way

The tented rooms looked reasonably comfy..

...and the hosting ladies were quite delightful..

..the kids slightly more circumspect

We also walked a little further to Rong Gu monastery...

..whose claim to fame was a supposed 45 km tunnel through the mountain!

Back at Rongbuk, we visited the monastery there, unusual in the fact that both monks and nuns both live there

When we emerged, Everest was clear, and many photos followed.
