We headed north towards Mt Kailash, the snow covering the road in places
It wasn't long before we had our first sightings of the mountain, across Rakas Tal (the lake)
We then drove alongside Lake Manasarova, still heading north
Mt Kailash got a little closer, necessitating a group photo
Then, when we swung west, we had excellent and changing views if Kailash
We saw some Nepali deer in the distance..
...and after about 4 hrs driving arrived in Menshi. It was really just one main road, where roadside pool was the locals entertainment.
It did have some buildings with a bit of character...
...plus lots of "customised" motorbikes...
...and a travelling rug salesman
We were due to camp, but it was very cold, so we opted to change to a hotel. The best in town was the definitely 1 star Song Sung River Hotel, and we seemed to be their first customers for the season.
At least they had a half decent kitchen and dining area for the staff to cook for us.
After lunch we headed out to Tirthapuri. There were two monasteries to visit and a 1 1/2 hour walk above the settlement. The first monastery was quite small, but had quite a lot of character
The walk passed lots of mani walls
...and "special" rocks. This one having a wolf print..
...before reaching the bigger, and recently built main monastery
...with its attendant monk
