A sea day today as we head north to the Auckland Island Group and specifically Enderby Island at the northern end of the group and Musgrave Inlet on Auckland Island itself.
A fairly quiet morning with the mandatory full cleaning of clothing before being allowed to go ashore again. Nonetheless a hearty breakfast and lunch on the open back deck ( puffer jackets being the dress code ). As always the dessert bar too tempting to avoid.
Some lectures in the afternoon on penguins and elephant seals. All excellent stuff most of which we will forget but one interesting slide was about which of the 18 species of penguins we would be seeing in our trip and where they come to breed.
For example, kings, royals, gentoo and rockhoppers on Macquarie and yellow eyed and rock hoppers on Enderby where we are headed, etc etc
And then just to torment us again, pavlova for afternoon tea.
