Cruise day 5 Astove Island

This morning we awoke moored off Astove Island in pouring rain. The plan for the day was to have a walk on the island then a snorkel off Astove wall - a renowned dive spot. However, the rain and wind put paid to that

Island stats

And an overview in sunny weather

This is what confronted us though

So it was a quiet morning of improvised lectures hoping for a weather change. Nothing eventuated during the morning so the next activity was lunch / excellent tuna tartare…

…. followed by pistachio and mango ice cream

By mid afternoon things hadn’t improved enough for a snorkel trip so we were offered a zodiac trip along the coast.

It all seemed a little like a consolation prizeuntil we came across some mating green turtles

Of course the weather didn’t interfere with cocktail hour - expresso martins this time

And there was another “show” after dinner
