To downtown Nairobi

We were up at 0630 for some more giraffe feeding.

Then a 5 star breakfast

With again too much food

Then it was off to the coffee shop for a run through of the various bean choices and then a hand ground artistically presented coffee

Alas at 10 am it was time to depart. Transport was provided to our next port of call in the heart of the city. Some street scenes along the way. A street food stall…

..s typical local bus…

…one of the numerous roadside nurseries.

After some crawling local traffic we finally made it to the Villa Rosa Kempinski, our home for 2 nights.

Another confronting thing about Nairobi it the overwhelming security presence everywhere. To get into the hotel forecourt we had 3 men go over the car and a sniffer dog go over it as well - and we were in a clearly market Giraffe Manor Vehicle. After getting out of the van all our bags went through a bag scanner and we had to walk through a metal detector.

We had booked a walking tour and planned to walk to the meeting place but it soon became apparent that Nairobi is not a walking city. Apart from the lack of footpaths and congestion, plus petty theft (never walk with your phone in your hand or jewellery showing), plus our inability to use Uber as we didn’t have a local SIM, we opted out. We did walk to a nearby mall for lunch and then the National Museum of Kenya was very close so we walked there, taking on a multi lane motorway crossing almost as intimidating as crossing major roads in Vietnam.

Just to show Bruce and Lorraine the easy way to have a mountain gorilla experience

The central exhibition area in the museum.
