We spent the day exploring Vilnius, starting with a 2 1/2 hr walking tour.
The lobby of our apartments
Start of the walking tour in Cathedral Square beside the statue of Gediminas, the first ruler of Lithuania
A brass model of the original castle and cathedral and fortifications
The cathedral and reconstructed palace
Presidential palace
Some random street art
Statue of the goddess Medeine riding a bear. Something from Lithuanias pagan past symbolising the goddesses power over the forests.
The symbolic constitution of Uzupis, an artist area that declared its independence in 1997 - in a symbolic kind of way.
The artistic hub
Wall art
Back in the city the Church of St Ann built in the 15 th century
Another of the 30 odd churches in Vilnius old town
Lunch at a social enterprise cafe in the old church near our apartment
Cherry pancake
Coffees after lunch
Yet another church
Giant allium flowers outside the cathedral square tower
The old ghetto area in the old town
Out to dinner at Lokys Restaurant. Crayfish and cold beetroot soup for entrees. Bruce couldn’t resist the beaver stew for mains.
Went for a stroll after dinner, plenty of al fresco dining activity
An interesting frontage of macaroons at this shop
