The normal way is to walk, and what Meg and Mark are doing, is to walk from Comillas to near Unquera, and then on to Llanes the next day. The way Julie's feet were we decided to walk from Comillas to San Vincente de la Baqurea, and then bus it to Llanes, where we would stay two nights with the hope of Julies feet improving.
We left by lovely early morning light on a walkway beside the road..
...there was some impressive Comillas scenery graffiti.
We crossed the Rabia river near its estuary...
...and were in picturesque rolling countryside, not too far from the ocean.
Not too far along we had our first good views of the Asturian mountains, and we crossed from Cantabria to Asturias.
The roadside foraging continued to be frustrating. It was far too early for the walnuts..
...far too early for the figs...
...far too early for the apples..
...far too early for the blackberries...
...and far too early for the grapes.
We passed this chapel in a very flash private golf course.
The distant views of San Vincente were impressive..
..and kept on getting better.
Here we said goodbye to most of the walkers, I say most as two Norweigan boys joined us for the bus ride to Llanes.
This is a lovely town, with some beautiful old buildings, a small harbour, and lovely beaches. Our hotel room at the Miraoles .....
.....overlooks the harbour.
After settling in we headed for the beach. It was high tide so no room at Playa de Puerto Chico...
...but OK at Playa de Tore over the headland.
We strolled out along the breakwater, where they had a novel approach to the ugly concrete blocks used to form these barriers - paint them!! - and even the gulls seemed to approve.
The harbour was magnificent in the evening light..
Dinner was at a parilla restaurant - shades of Argentina. This is also an area big on cider, so starter was homemade chorizo in cider ......it was excellent.
Then the pariila for Julie...costillas, or BBQ pork ribs.
Bob couldn't resist another local speciality, cachopo, really veal parmigana without the sauce.
