Tenby to Broadhaven with stops for walks

Quite a big day. We had another walk around Tenby before leaving...

...finding a traditional Lolly shop...

..and a drained harbour.

We had a holiday flat booked in Broadhaven, but planned to do two short walks in the south of Pembrokeshire before we left the area. We first went to Manorbier, not far west of Tenby...

...and did a 5 km circuit walk to Swanlake Bay.

There were lots of distractions, including, scores of labyrinth spiders, which have a plate sized web with a funnel in the middle...

...lots of buff tailed bumblebees..

..and Cinnabar moth caterpillars.

The coastal scenery though was the main attraction.

Amazingly, with 15 deg water temperature and terrible conditions, the surf school was in full swing.

We walked on to the privately owned Manorbier Castle...

..where we managed to get in without paying the £5.50 entry...

..by saying we just wanted to go to the tea-room. It was cappuccino and Welsh cakes all round.

We then drove further west to Stackpole, a former "grand estate", now owned by the National Trust. There is a 10 km circuit walk there encompassing beaches, sea cliffs, and an estuary. This was the view back to the red sandstone cliffs as we started.

We then walked over a headland to Barfundle Bay, reputedly one of the finest beaches in Wales.

The scenery just got more and more spectacular as we changed from sandstone to limestone cliffs.

The fields had lots of butterflies and these colourful six spot Burnet moths.

After rounding the cliffs, we then had a shaded walk up the estuary with swans and lots of ducks and an old arched stone bridge.

It was then off to Broadhaven, where we are staying for three days.

It was a quick unpack, and then off to explore the small town. Surprisingly, we found a pub and went in to sample the local ales.

Then it was back for a home cooked meal.
