Camino del Norte - Day 2 - Zarautz to Deba -22 km

It was a 5:15 wake-up for a 6am departure as we had a steep hot climb out of Zarautz

More lovely villages, but alas no cappuccinos at this hour

Great views of the coast including this one of Zamaia and it's harbour sea wall

The town itself was quite pretty .... and had cappuccinos

Way marking continued to be excellent and imaginative

We were on quiet back roads, increasingly exposed to the sun

But never in danger of being lost

A feature stop on this leg is Santa Maria church holding the Lady of Itziar, a 13 th century icon

And here she is, no more than 500 mm high

Interestingly they also had a black virgin

Then it was in to Deba, a nice coastal town, with two big lifts to get us down from the hillside to the town. Julie's blistered feet cheered when we got here.

Nice street art

And a nice square where we waited to get into the municipal alberge, our pilgrim dormitory accommodation for 5€ a night

And this was the alberge, the old train station, our home for the night
