Bale Mountains NP

We had a full day exploring the par, but first we had to drive up onto the Senetti Plateau at about 4000m

The plateau was enveloped in fog when we arrived, but it was clearing

It was a stark treeless environment..

...dominated by just a few plants.

Although we had good sightings of Ethiopian wolves in the Simien mountains, we were keen to see more and we didn't have to wait long..

...plus there were lots of scurrying Blix grass rats, food for the wolf and birds of prey

Also the endemic blue wing goose...

..plus snake eagles..

... and augur buzzards.

We intended to bag the high point by foot, but given there was a road and we were only walking one way, we opted to drive up

The plan was then to walk down, but with a howling wind and 7 deg temperature (without the wind chill), it was an easy decision to take some photos and drive down

Next stop was the Harenna forest. The hope here was to see the rare Bale mountains monkey. We lucked out, spotting a small troop and getting excellent photos. We later say a documentary on the park and all they got was a partial flash of one disappearing into the forest.

We first passed through an Omoro village, with lots of woven bamboo fencing...

..then there they were.

We then backtracked out of the park, with one more wolf sighting, this one having an afternoon snooze.
