Daasanch village visit

We drove an hour and a half south of Turmi, to within sighting range of Somalia and Kenya, to visit a Daasanch village. The countryside was semi desert..

...with some interesting termite structures..

..and liberal road rules.

More birds! - a vulturine guinea fowl...

.a martial eagle with a kill..

..a pair of dark chanting goshawks...

..and a pair of vultures...

...no doubt in search of road kill like this unfortunate black back jackal.

As we were so close to the border we had to register in Omorate.

Then organise a crossing of the Omo river in dugout canoes

It was then a short walk to the village, where agin it was hard to stop taking photos

Some of the men had fancy clay based headdresses..

..this was a more traditional style...

...and this an innovative jangling apron

Back across..

...for coffee...

..watched by colobus monkeys...

...and a fairly rare black headed gonolok
