To Bale Mountains National Park

We drove from Arba Minch to the Bale Mountains NP, another park with a high alpine plateau and home to the largest population of Ethiopian wolves in the world (that is about 150 of them - it is claimed that the Ethiopian wolf is twice as rare as the giant panda)

There were the usual sights along the way, traditional houses...

Alaba ethnic group people who seem to like emulating chariot drivers

Traditional high hats of the Alaba people

A traditional painted Alaba hut

Roadside activity

More donkey cart obstacles

School girls on the way home

We dropped down in to the Rift Valley again..

In to Oromo ethnic group region, a Muslim group, passing lots of small mosques..

..before entering busy Shashemene...

..for lunch..

...including some local bread with a spicey berbere sauce...

...watched over by lots of vultures.

We climbed out of the valley to a large scale grain producing area set up under a collective system during the short period Ethiopia flirted with socialism

Still colourful Oromo village houses...

...and basic huts in the farmland

There was also large scale cattle grazing, with real horsemen

Late in the afternoon we caught sight of the Bale mountains...

..passing higher altitude villages

..and then entering the park itself at the open Gaysay Grasslands

We stopped at park headquarters in Dinsho...

...and did a ranger guided walk...

...seeing Menelik bush buck...

...warthogs...

...doe and Buck nyala..

...red hot pokers...

..and bohor.

Overnight was at the Wake Shebelle Hotel in Goba.
