C-day 3 Approaching Greenland

Another sea day “steaming” towards Greenland

Julie started the day with a yoga class. A presentation on whales after breakfast then a dip in the spa - 11 degrees air temperature but very pleasant in the tub

Milkshakes plus hot dog, gyozas and hamburger for lunch

Couldn’t pass up cakes after the afternoon lectures

Alternate whale and bird spotting position

We had an introductory presentation on Greenland. Successive waves of colonisation by Inuit and Norse Vikings.  Currently no Norse, mostly Inuit with some Danish. Total population just under 60,000. Capital Nuuk with about 18,000 people. I’ve coverage 81 percent of the total land mass.

Then a late afternoon presentation on the day ahead, which is a transit of Prince Christian sound at the bottom of Greenland…

….which has only just become ice free permitting a transit

The presentation ended with works by a Greenland artist backed by music from a Greenland musician

By evening we were quite close to the Greenland coast
