Awoke to a lovely crisp but sunny morning. Off to the seaside today.
First up was the walk to Hengifoss waterfall. This is a unique waterfall over a rock face with red strata
Another photo of the columns on the alternate route down
Next stop was Skriouklauster historic site. It was the home of a famous writer
Next it was a diversion to the colourful town of Seydisfjordour
To get there we drove over one of the typical one lane river crossing bridges
and over a high pass with views down to the village and past ski areas
The walkabout didn’t disappoint
Back over the pass and on to Borgarfjordur Eystri
Great scenery on the drive in
And some photogenic houses
It is home to one of only remaining original sod clad fisherman’s houses in Iceland
Next a short drive out of town to the fishing harbour and a very accessible puffin colony
It looked pretty similar to other puffin encounters we’d had until the birds started coming in with their catch
Now, which one was my burrow?
Damn difficult!
I’ll have to explore
We had a buffet dinner at our hotel with great locally caught ocean catfish washed down with a local craft beer for Bob - Julie baulking at the $30 gin and tonic (the beer $15 for a 300ml bottle mind you). Iceland really lives up to its reputation of being super expensive.
Retired to our room about 9:30 pm with views of the surrounding mountains lit with sunset colours while lying on our bed in our room
