Today we drove the loop around the so called Troll peninsular north of Akureyri.
Quite variable scenery. Lots of scenery then coastal valleys and cliffs
One new slightly unnerving experience was driving 3 long one lane tunnels! Luckily everyone else seemed to know what the were doing
Our main objective was the lovely little harbour town of Siglufjorour. It was once one of the biggest herring fishing and processing harbours in the world.
It has a highly regarded Herring Era Museum that didn’t disappoint
With excellent photos and videos of times gone by. It shut down in 1968 after herring stocks were depleted.
More photo opportunities
We then visited the botanical gardens in Akureyri
A late return saw us grab kebabs in town followed by ice creams (outside temp 9 degrees)
