Today we headed south, but not by the sealed ring road but by the unsealed F35 that runs through the centre of Iceland
The F roads are considered “dangerous” roads and you can only go if you have a 4WD, which we had. The start was initially bitumen through farmland
The warning signs for rental cars
The initial desolate landscape
About half way we approached the geothermal area
Bubbling fumeroles
Although it was 6 degrees outside - a dip in the hot baths was required
While nature bubbled on
…and al fresco lunch was nothing
We drove on through amazing landscapes and corrugations …
….to the Golden Circle area and hit the crowds at Gullflos falls
Then it was off to a nearby geyser
And in slow motion..
Then to our accommodation for the night - drinks on the deck
One of the national dishes - Icelandic lamb soup
Great evening light out the window of our room
