First game drive - evening

After settling in to our villa it was a 4 pm call for coffee before our first game drive. Of course, it wasn't just coffee!

We then headed for the vehicles, 6 per 4WD plus driver/guide, Craig, and tracker, Jofret.

We headed on the tracks to the Sand river, seeing en route, male and female nyala..

...water buck...

...and Impala.

There was great excitement at the river....

...with some seeing their first wild elephant...

...and rhino.

There were also lots of birds, many too elusive to photograph, but we did get photos of a roller bird..

...yellow billed hornbills...

...go-away birds...

..and kingfishers.

After a few hours we stopped for evening drinks by a waterhole, G&Ts of course, with biltong and dried mango and spring rolls...

...followed by a strong shot of Amarula, locally produced from the native marula tree.

Next was the infamous night drive, where, from our experience you are told all the wonderful things you might see and in fact you see nothing.

We did however get a distant view of a hyena and a good view of a bush baby.

Everyone returned very pleased with their first foray.
