To Johannesburg

We left the resort at 6 am in the dark and drove back to Dubai airport for our flight to Johannesburg. Interestingly, the traffic was horrific, the trip taking 2 hours rather than the usual 1 hour.

We had a good, if not hazy, overview of Dubai city as we flew out.

We tracked down through Muscat, crossing to the ocean just east of the Yemeni border. Our first view of Africa was the horn, still pretty much desert.

It was an eight hour flight to Johannesburg, so it was late in the day by the time we cleared customs etc and got to our hotel - the Four Seasons Westcliff.

We were allocated a very nice room, complete with Nelson Mandela photos...

...and a terrace with views over the city.

Dinner was at Wombles Steakhouse, reputedly one of the top three restaurants in South Africa. We reserve our judgement.
