Boarding Queen Elizabeth

This morning we were taken from our hotel to the Queen Elizabeth.

Check-in was very smooth and we were soon in our cabin...

...with a welcome bottle of bubbly...

We explored the ship

The next day we had free in port so we did a walking tour of Bo Kaap, the Malay/Muslim district renown for colourful houses.

We also had lunch there at a highly rated Cape Malay food restaurant - we had boboete- a local speciality, curry with a sweet flavour.

In the pm we did a Robben Island tour. This is where Nelson Mandela and many other prisoners were incarcerated

This is the maximum security prison

We has a talk by an ex prisoner

Plus we saw the limestone quarry in which the prisoners worked..

...and Mandela's cell

Plus his liberation story

As an unexpected bonus, we saw a colony of African penguins

..and found a good spot for a pose.

With slow and expensive internet on the boat, this may be the last post for this trip. See you in Australia mid Feb
