To the markets

Rain was forecast for most of the day so we decided to go to the Marché D'Aligre and stock up again post Christmas, plus take advantage of Albert's presence to get some more education on French cheeses.

Despite the weather, the market was bustling.

We stocked up on fruit and veggies...and a chicken (more about that later)...

...browsed the flower stalls..

...marvelled at the range of mushrooms and truffles..

...checked out the crafts and bric-a-brac..

...people watched..

..and finally had our cheese buying instruction.

These were the spoils....

...which made for a wonderful lunch...the cheeses of course having to be eaten in a particular order, from mildest to the strongest flavoured.

We had a quiet afternoon - digesting the cheese! - but eventually worked up an appetite for dinner. Somewhat unusually we ate in, Julie preparing chicken with clementines and fennel. Something she does at home but in this case, it was somewhat special as the chicken from the market cost 35€ ($53)!! It did taste good thou.
