We then continued on to Cais de Sodre to catch the train to Cascais, a 45 minute trip.
First stop was the quite lovely Praia de Rainha, down streets with decorative tile street names
The water seemed like 14 or 15 degrees, but that didn't worry Freddie
We then set off in search of lunch. The town itself was very pretty
We stumbled on a tiny polvo (octopus) eatery in the back streets and decided to give it a try (it could seat a maximum of 14 people at a time)
It took quite a while to get our food, with just momma cooking in a small kitchen..
..but when it came it was excellent. Melt in your mouth octopus served with three different accompaniments. With sweet potato..
...with potato and garlic...
..and with some sort of vegetable with coriander mix. The meal was universally considered the best food we have had to date in Lisbon.
Next stop was the main beach, Praia de Ribiera..
..where there was a sand sculpture..
..and plenty of sun lovers..
...and it was warm enough for everyone to have a (very) quick dip
Just a short stroll to the old citadel..
