We set out after breakfast to Praca Luis do Camoes to do join a Lisbon free walking tour. We walked to the impressive Elevator de Santa Justa, built in 1902, but the queue was so long we walked up the hill..
..to the square.
The tour went through Barrio Alto, with plenty of street art..
..to the National Police Museum..
..past this small open market..
..to a viewpoint, Castelo de Sao Jorge in full view..
..down to the waterfront and then through Alfama, the oldest part of Lisbon and with a strong Fado (music) tradition.
Lunch called, so we headed for the recommended Figu's Restaurant on Placa Figueira, going for a selection of tapas..
..and a novel death by sugar dessert.
In the afternoon we headed out again, Google Maps leading us to an essential for travelling families, a playground
We found a 5 pm Fado show, uphill of course, and we sidled up alongside this funicular tram..
While the performers were very sincere and no doubt highly talented, Fado is, like opera, a bit of an acquired taste
