Lisbon

We had barely settled in in Paris before we all set off Lisbon for a week

We have a very well located apartment in Chiado, a district in the old town.

It is very well equipped and very comfortable for the 5 of us.

The first night we barely had time to settle in, just a quick dash to Mercado da Figueira for some yummy pre made concoctions.

The next morning, Saturday, it was raining. We made a quick dash to a supermarket for supplies. Plenty of good looking tarts on the way!!!..

..and there was another window to the shop

The whole area looked quite fascinating, but a little dismal

Fortunately by mid morning the rain eased and we headed out. We strolled through Praca do Commercio..

..to Mercado de Ribiero/Time Out Market

Even though we were early, the Time Out Market was heaving. Eventually we found seats and had lunch there

We headed off looking for a recommended cafe. There was plenty of street art..

...great multilevel housing landscapes as we walked uphill..

..through little squares..

..with some colourful kiosks..

..and along funky streets in Cais do Sodre..

..til we made it. Great coffee - and Portugese tarts of course.

Next was Praca Luis de Camoes

..a couple of churches..

..and we saw this prize winning display in another pastry shop...

..so had to give it a try.

There was plenty of colourful window displays..

..and the old town had come to life

Tacky souvenir shops were abundant...

..as were wine shops, this one in an old style tiled building

We walked up to Castello de Sao Jorge..

..and took in the views..

Unfortunately there were huge queues at the castle so we strolled back home, with plenty to see on the way..

..a lot of ceramics as expected..

..and especially ceramic tiles..

..this one had excellent ice creams as well as its impressive tiled facade..

..and some impressively mural led stairways.

We also started to get interested in dinner

Pippa and Adam headed out for a child free dinner, we headed back to the Mercado..

..for a € 3.98 BBQ chicken and € 2 salad. Cheapest dinner ever!
