Mokoro ride

Obviously everyone who comes to the Delta is looking forward to a mokoro ride. Here the wooden boats are no longer used (they don't want the trees cut down - but the sceptic in some (no prizes for guessing who) might ask about the all timber resort!

Anyway, it was our first Okavango experience. This is at the loading station.

Poling through the water lilies and reeds..

...up narrow channels..

...and into the sunset.

A good place for a selfie..

We didn't see any animal life and not many birds, other than elusive malachite kingfishers, but even Monet would have been impressed by the water lilies. This is a day lily, unpolinated (as it is white)..

...pollinated day lilies are purple.

This is a night lily, note the scalloped edge to the leaf, day lilies have smooth leaf edges..

...and to prove the point, here are the two together, the night lily unopened.

On our way back to the lodge we saw some antelope we assumed were springbok, but no, these were webbed toe (adapted to swim better in the swamps) lechwe antelope.

At the lodge that evening we had drinks (Amarula of course) by the fire pit..

..and then we were taken aside (for some unknown reason) and treated to a private dinner by the pool.
