Our final day on Sth Georgia was planned to be at Gold Harbour in the far south, but an increase and shift in the wind indicated that we would be unable to land. Instead we visited another old whaling station at Stromness, just above Husvik.
This time it was forbidden to go into the factory for safety reasons, so we did a walk up Shackleton Valley to the waterfall he came out at on his cross island walk and from where he first sighted habitation
This is the view comin in..
...lots of seal pups playing on and near the beach.
It was about a 3 km walk up the valley..
...with some interesting plants...
...to the waterfall..
...and the view point nearby.
It was then back to the zodiacs...
...and out of the bay, passing the ruins of Lieth whaling station...
...while nicely located on the rear deck...
...and farewelled by petrels.
