Motor boat tours

The other way of exploring the delta is by motorised flat bottomed boat. This way you get to travel further afield and look for hippos and crocodiles.

The reflections could be quite beautiful..

..and we saw quite a mix of things. This water monitor..

...open billed storks..

...beautiful dragonflies..

...white chested bee-eaters..

..Nile crocodiles, but quite fleetingly in the water..

..an elephant crossing the main channel..

..and of course hippos, again, just in the water.

These ones, ie those with a baby, you stay well clear of

The storks were settling in to their evening roosting spots

So it was time for us to have sunset drinks..

..which made for a quite late dash back to the lodge, avoiding hippos on the way.

All in good time for a communal dinner to end the day
