Loch Ness and Inverness old town

A reasonable day weather wise forecast but still a chilly 11 degrees maximum. We decided to drive down to Loch Ness

We stopped at Loch Ness Visitor Centre...

Some interesting stuff there, one of the earliest deep water craft to search for Nessie

Plus a memorial for John Cobb who in 1952 was the first to fit a rocket engine in a boat and reach over 200 mph in his attempt to set a new world water speed record. This was on Loch Ness. Unfortunately he had to do another run in the opposite direction and his boat flipped and he was killed

Some decided on a Loch Ness boat trip and others a walk. The walk gave expansive views over the loch..

..and distant views of Urquhart Castle

The boat trip got more detailed information and closer views

From the depth gauge, 226 metres down and a flat bottom from the silt build-up

It was on to lunch at Drumnadrochit village. Great baked potatoes with, in the foreground, black pudding, Brie and cranberry sauce and for Julie goats cheeses, grilled eggplant and pesto

They also had some very Scottish signs on the doors to the gents and ladies toilets

We then drove back to Inverness for a bit better exploration of the city.

The castle..

..Victorian Markets..

...old town..

...The Whisky Shop for more tastings...

...the Cathedral..

..and a walk along the river

After dinner we headed to Hootenany’s for some traditional Scottish music
