The Drumbeg Loop

promotedas the most scenic drive in Scotland, the Drumbeg loop was on our doorstep so, despite another cold overcast day we decided to do it.

The first stop was Achmelvich beach

With its well resourced information hut.

This section of the road was single track and known as the Wee Mad Road of Sutherland, the views lived up to expectation including our first hazy views of the iconic Suilven

We had plenty of company on the road

Next was Clachtoll beach

With its old salmon fisherman’s hut and display

Next hot chocolates and cakes at the Belgian run Choc-o-latté

This was on the way to Stoer Lighthouse

Where there were lots of seabirds including black cormorants

And razorbills or guillemots

More views around Drumbeg

And then lunch at the Kylesku Hotel

Ales with seaweed puffs

Including the Scottish dish Cullen skink, a fish soup made from smoked  haddock, potatoes, onions and cream

Back home to warm up then out to dinner locally at Peets

A travelling movie theatre parked near our cottage on the way home
