Light onshore breezes and a forecast 32 deg maximum definitely helped us decide on a beach day. We did however decide on a change of scenery and walked to the next bay Xwejni
We walked along the coast, past salt pans cut in the rock shelf
And had nice views of Zebbug village on the hill. All Gozo villages were on hills, it seems tourism fostered the development of seaside towns into resorts. Interestingly the churches also served as defensive forts in times of attack. As a result, most are fortress like in structure with high windows at the side.
There were lots of “wildflowers” as well
Unfortunately the mauve stingers has arrived in plague proportions before we did..
...but we settled in in the beach chairs anyway
There were more salt pans on the further point
Plus more fishermen’s caves
The outer harbour at Marsalforn looked very appealing on the way back, but alas lots of jellies
So we settled in on our porch for take-away ftira and local beer before watching the men’s final of the French OpenTennis
Dinner was at a restaurant on the rocks at the head of the bay, Il Gabbiano
