Scicli and Sampieri

A day out and about from our base at Quartarella. Firstly, the UNESCO listed Scicli village then down to the coast at Sampiere. Both short drives to the south of us

Scicli village, set in a gorge

Overview of the town

As with most Sicilian towns, the main attractions are the churches

Though there were other nice buildings

Maybe some not so nice

The lizards we happy in the heat, this a Sicilian wall lizard

But for us it
didn’t take long for the heat to take over though, and nothing like a Sicilian lemon granita as a refresher

We then drove to the beach at Sampieri

The local fishing boats provided some good photo opportunities, slid up ramps just above the waterline, or up the road in front of the houses

After several swims to escape the heat, it was time to visit the
gelateria on the beachfront

And head back to Quartarella...

...to the pool

Where we were visited by a huge black bee, which we assume was a carpenter bee

We drove back to Scicli for dinner at our hosts recommended Umara restaurant

Grilled Sicilian cheeses with a pear compote - the taste much better than the look

Stuffed sardines

Sicilian wines by the glass

Octopus on a broccoli mash

Deconstructed lemon millefoglie

The whole town quite a picture as we walked back to the car
