Monopoli and the beaches

We decided on a day at the beach today, with a visit to Monopoli for lunch.

Of course breakfast first, another excellent spread of farm products. Mama also making the cheese

Our route for the day

Wandering in from the car park with our gear

Didn’t like the look of this at all

But there were several nearby bays, with clear rules about where to go. The main issue was potential cliff collapse

We settled on this little grotto, named Copacabana

Reluctantly we left and drove the short distance to Monopoli. This is a port town, with an historic centre

Street views in the old town

The old port

The town “beach”, again a nice setting

Lunch at Locanta dei Mercanti

Orecchiette with tomato, basil and burrata plus fricelli with scampi and an orange sauce

Just how we feel sometimes after lunch

Next it was back to the beach at Polignano a Mare one of Puglia’s more famous beaches. The town...

...the beach, quite a setting, but stony and rough waves on the day

You could walk through a tunnel to deep water and cliffs on the northern side

Centuries if not millenia old olive trees around Fasano on the drive home
