We drove further to the east, initially along the coast then inland to Ragusa and Modica
We had a swim at Falconara, below the castle
A very unhappy tomato grower, shame we couldn’t stop to help him
Next stop was Ragusa, the regional capital, and specifically the old town
Looking up at the old town
Piazza Duomo
Cannoli in the piazza
Street scenes in Ragusa
We then drove through Modica to Masseria Quartarella agrotourismo
Our sitting room
And bedroom
Open kitchen area, with wine cellar in an old tomb discovered when redoing the floor
The common sitting room, complete with artifices from WWII, the building was used by the German and Italian armies, two 1930s motorbikes (the owners grandfather’s), deer horns from the Dolomites, his father served there in the war, a case of shotguns (they still hunt woodcock and the family dog is a pointer), plus much more
More scenes from around the property
Flowering cactus
And bear’s claw, also common on Malta
Then after finding our intended dinner restaurant closed and eating arancini in a bar, it was home for a red wine watching the full moon rising
