A day out exploring Noto, Vendicari Nature Reserve and Marzamemi
First stop was Noto, reputedly one of the loveliest of the Baroque towns and the home of Sicily’s best gelato’s and granitas
Walking to the old town
The old town gate
Once more, churches
Though the duomo had an upmarket wedding starting
Other random sights
The death memorials always stopping passing locals
Of course we had to try the famous gelatos at Cafe Sicilia . Sadly, the rest of Sicily now seems to have caught up quality wise and charging two and a have times other excellent gelateria they are simply trading to the tourists on their reputation. Still, they got our money!
Next stop was the Nature Reserve and beach at Vendacari
Clear turquoise water near the old tuna factory
And plenty of bird life in the lagoons, including white flamingos, spoonbills and ducks
As good as it gets from a distance with an iPhone
And what it looks like up close from an information board in the reserve
A great lunch in an olive grove adjacent to the reserve
Next stop was Marzamemi
A lovely old port area
Some shops - Sicilian produce
Sicilian designed scarves
Anold decorated Sicilian cart
And best of all, crystal clear water for a swim
