Around Trapani

Today was a mix of beach time and exploration of Trapani

After a pre- breakfast swim at the each below, we headed for the fish markets. There were lots of fruit and veggie stalls in the area also, and strings of garlic were very much on display

Swordfish anyone?

It is a sad fact that for Millenia tuna have congregated off western Sicily to breed in the May June period. For hundreds if not thousands of years these were fished with poles. The system was sustainable over all those years. Come modern era commercial fishing and guess what ....

Enough said but it was disgusting to see all the small fish, rays, and even epaulette sharks on sale. They were even selling directly off the back of the boats in the harbour

And getting back to the garlic..

This deli truck was going well also

Next it was time to visit the churches - this the main cathedral

This the Church of  Purgatory, with 20 life size wooden effigies depicting the story of Christ’s Passion, which are carried during the Easter week processions. Easy craft group carries a particular effigy, eg, the fishermen, the stone masons, etc

Another church

A nice restaurant sign in the street

In the afternoon it was back to the beach

Before pre-dinner drinks on our balcony. We didn’t get to meet the Don, but we drank some of his wine

For dinner, we made the almost unprecedented decision to go back to Bettolaccia, it was that good.
