Valletta

Today we spent the whole day in Valletta, the tiny walled city that is the  capital of Malta. It was a short  ferry ride from Saliems to Valletta

We passed Fort Manoel

And arrived below the imposing walls and buildings within

The views started as we climbed up through the outer walls

We came across the excellent Fortifications Interpretation Centre which showed the history of the fortifications and how they were built

We also stumbled upon St Augustine church, with its labarynth underground chambers including chapels and WW11 bomb shelters

The street scenery
kept us taking photos

Until we came across the hordes from a cruise ship

We shot off to the waterfront for a swim

Then it was time for lunch. A tasting menu at Leglin. Fish soup , dips, fish
cakes, lasagne, mussels, brigioli and garlic potatoes

We killed time in a garden on top of the walls..

..before doing a free walking tour of the city. Lots more photos

Great views over the Three Cities, with the cruise ship leaving

A gelato break

Then back to Sliema in the evening light
